Concert 19th December St Mary's Church Penzance in aid of Shelterbox.

Hi there singers,

I thought I should let you know straight away that the choir all decided this evening (12.11.08) not to go ahead with this year's Christmas concert at St Mary's on the 19th of December. Everyone at the rehearsal agreed that with the recent falling attendance it's very likely that the numbers would be too low to put on a satisfactory show and felt relieved that the pressure of preparing for a performance had been lifted. Christmas is often a difficult time to raise an audience what with so many other things happening.

The Montol concert is also a no-go as all the other choirs have pulled out and they asked us to do the whole thing; two 45 min sets which we thought was too much. We will try to organise something for early Spring.

Please try to pass this message on to any other members without e-mail.

PLEASE NOTE:
From 17th September the rehearsal times have changed to 7.15pm to 8.45pm.

The lyrics booklet is now available for you to print, on the Lyrics page.

Levow an Bys are a community choir based in Penzance, Cornwall and lead by the widely experienced musical director, Michele Brown. The name means Voices of the World in Cornish.

We meet in the Community Room at Humphry Davy School, Coombe Road Penzance on Wednesday nights through the school term, between 7.15 and 8.45pm.

Everyone and anyone (over 16ish)is welcome to come and join in. There's no audition, you don't need to have sung before, you don't need to read music, all the songs are taught 'by ear'. If you can read music then the dots are available for many of the songs.

The repetoire is varied as implied by the choir's name and comes from Africa, Europe, Eastern Europe and America it two, three, and sometimes four-part harmony.
